Design and equipment
Thanks to its compact design measures the 8-pound multifunction device, when everything is folded and retracted, 44.6 x 36.0 x 22.6 inches. Due to the largely matte surface, it is relatively insensitive to go dust and fingerprints. The large, sturdy control panel can be folded out at the front in the middle and optimally adjusted to the ideal viewing angle. In the center is the 2.5-inch LCD (6.3 centimeters). Many current printers only offer touchscreens and virtual buttons to the user, the more it is almost a relief that Epson does not follow this trend here. Anyone who still wants to make all the inputs via a touch panel, will find the larger Epson Stylus Office TX620FWD.
With the Epson Stylus Office TX620FWD, all keys are meaningfully grouped on the panel for direct access to certain functions for faxing and scanning, as well as two-sided printing via the rear-integrated automatic duplex unit and a reset button. The controls are easy to use, and control from the PC via the software - included on the CD - is easy.
On the front left is the card reader, which supports Compact Flash, xD and SD memory cards, and MS (PRO), as well as the PictBridge-compatible USB port for printing and saving images directly from a compatible stick.
Ethernet is available for integration into the network via cable, otherwise the printer can also be connected via USB 2.0 or wirelessly via WLAN. The interior takes just five minutes. Alternatively, the combi unit also supports cloud printing. Epson has also introduced Epson Connect with the TX620FWD announcement, which includes iPrint and email print. With e-mail printing, as with ePrint, print jobs can be sent directly by e-mail to a clearly assigned e-mail address of the printer. This means that any documents can be attached to the e-mail and then sent to the e-mail address of the printer. If you are on the move, the sent e-mail is initially stored in the device when the print job is printed and can then be retrieved and printed whenever required.
Expression of iOS and Android devices
Epson also offers free apps to print directly from mobile devices. Via Epson iPrint, websites, photos, documents etc. can be printed directly from the iOS and Android devices on the Epson. With Apple's AirPrint, wireless printing from the iPad , iPhone or iPod Touch is possible. By GoogleCloud Print can be printed from your smartphone or tablet PC via Google Mail or Google Docs for mobile devices and other supported apps. Everything is quite handy, but it comes in the test now and then that the edges do not fit in photos. Important pictures or even presentations should not necessarily be printed out this way. However, the solution is suitable for quick printing of noncritical documents such as tables or task lists.
The combi unit comes with four low-cost cartridges for cyan, magenta, yellow and black. The DuraBrite ink cartridges are smudge and waterproof and - according to the manufacturer - lightfast for years and can also be edited with a highlighter. The supplementary product names of the cartridges initially remind us of group names in the kindergarten, but prove to be extremely practical reminder, at the latest when you stand in front of the shelf at the dealer. The black cartridge from the so-called "Hirsch" series costs depending on the provider about 23 euros and is enough for 945 pages, the color cartridges cost an average of 17 euros and create 755 pages. When using the XL black and color cartridges resulting in average printing costs of 3.2 cents per color page and 2.5 cents per black and white page, which is comparatively very cheap. Alternatively, incidentally, the smaller cartridges from the "apple" group can also be used.
